I wanted to remind everyone of a couple of things that we have coming up this week and in the weeks to come:
This coming Saturday, August 13th at 12PM Central Time, the RHS Marching Bulldog Band will be performing at the Cleburne County Fair in Heflin, AL. All performing members will need to be at the fair by 11:15AM Central Time so that we can all properly warm up and be ready for the performance. All performing members will be given a wristband that gets them into the fair for free. If band members are driving THEMSELVES, they will be allowed to park their car for free in the parking lot at the fair as long as they have their wristbands showing. There will be a designated spot that parents will be allowed to drop their performing students off for free in the Milworks parking lot nearby, but no one will be able to park there. Parents wishing to stay and watch the performance will instead have to park in the general admission parking area and pay the $5 fee. Students will need to wear their band tshirt and have some sort of khaki shorts to wear. Please do not forget about this! This is our first performance for the general public!
Also: We have started preparing for the Homecoming dance this year, which will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 7PM Central Time. The dance will be open to all 9-12 grade students that buy a ticket. A contest is being held to design what will be on the Homecoming shirts that will we be sold and the winner will be awarded two free tickets to the event. The theme for this year's dance is "Oh, What A Night" and our opponent for the game will be the Gaston Bulldogs. Designs should be expected to follow this theme to some degree. All submissions can be sent to my email address at jaron.smith@cleburneschools.net
For all of my beginning band students and others who may need instruments: Next Tuesday, August 16th at 6PM Central Time, we will have Gadsden Music arrive at the high school in the band room to try all of our sixth graders out on the instruments that they will be playing in band. Gadsden Music will have instruments that the students can either buy or rent, based on the financial needs of each family. RHS has a few instruments that we will be able to loan, but only for in-class playing. These instruments are not allowed to be taken home. We are looking to have a sizeable 6th grade band this year, so spread the word and invite everyone that you know to come out!
