Hello all, I have posted several important things within the past month , I want to go ahead and make another post compiling all of the needed info for your convivence.
Auditions There is a little confusion at this moment on auditions I wanted to clear that up for you all. The marching band is not an audition based ensemble. All students in 8th-12th grade that register to march an instrument will be welcomed. I will be sending home a registration form in the very near future, likely post spring break, on this form I will list a date that I need the forms back as well as all important dates for marching band. The auditions that you have seen have been for positions that require special expertise such as color guard, dance, and majorette. We also had auditions for leadership. I would like to assure you that all students who will be in 8th-12th grade for 2023-2024 are welcome to march an instrument with us without the need to audition! Current 6th graders Some of the current sixth graders will be invited to march with us next year. This is an honor, if your student is invited it means that they have proven to be excellent beyond the expected level. I want to stress the fact that an invitation is an honor, if your child is not invited it absolutely does not mean that your child is not good! I have told the 6th graders that I would like them to be able to play a Concert Bb and Eb scale as well as be good with rhythms. I understand that they may think this means they will be auditioned, but I will not have them audition. These requirements are things that will massively help them in marching band. Important marching dates Week of July 17th-21rst 8:00 am- 12:00 pm Rookie Camp 12:30 pm- 4:30 pm Auxiliary/ Percussion Camps (rookies who are in percussion do attend both the rookie camp and the percussion camp same for auxiliary rookies and auxiliary camp) Week of July 24th-28th 8:00 am- 4:00 pm Full Band Camp All Rookies who are marching and leaders are required to attend both rookie camp and full band camp. EVERYONE who is marching is required to attend full band camp! 10/7/2023- Info below Marching Competitions I am currently trying to plan out marching competitions. There are a few competitions that I currently am looking into, however only a few have already set dates have been announced by other schools. At this time plan to have a competition on 10/7/2023 I understand that this date is the Saturday right before fall break, but I am letting you know about this date well in advance so that you are able to plan around this competition! I will NOT schedule a competition for 10/14/2023 as this will be during fall break and we will not be able to have practices during that week, plus I do not wish to make planning trips impossible for you! As I get more competition dates I will let you know so that you can plan around them. Updates I wanted to encourage you all to join the remind. I use the remind app to send out when I make a post on this page, as well as inform you when we depart from locations with ETA's. The remind app will give you a notification any time that I make a post to save you from constantly needing to check this website. to join you can either follow this link https://www.remind.com/join/a99bk7 or you can text @a99bk7 to the phone number 81010 We will have a booster meeting in the near future, but I welcome you to, as always, email me should you have any questions or concerns at all. Week of 3/13-3/17 Color Guard auditions The audition process will take place over three days Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There will be Clinics on Tuesday 3/14 and Thursday 3/16 where the student will be shown everything that you will be judged on during the audition Friday 3/17. Students Auditioning must attend all three days! The auditions will be one student at a time for Ms. Detrice Stillwell and Mr. Kevin Dunham. Any student who will be in the 9th grade or above for the 2023-2024 academic year is welcome, and encouraged, to apply! Section leaders and Band Captain The musical audition will consist of playing all parts of the fight song I.E. The trumpet section leader will be required to play both the first and second parts of the fight song. If your section only has one part, then you are only required to play that one part. (This portion is not required for auxiliary, rather your audition for the line will be applied to this score) The interview will take place directly after your playing audition. I will work with every student who is planning on auditioning for leadership to determine the best day and time for you. Auditions will take place the week of 3/20-3/24 from 2:45 pm-4:00 pm. I am willing to stay later for any day should it be necessary. The teacher recommendation is attached below. You may either print this off or get one from me in the band room. Please give this to your teacher ASAP so that they may return it to me by 3/20. You may choose any teacher that you have had, except for me. When giving this form to teachers, make sure that you fill in the top portion. Applicant's name, position(s) applied for, and sign the waiver to have access to the completed form. The highest scoring student who is auditioning for band captain will be awarded the position. The score will be a composite of the three audition portions. Drum Major Auditions Your auditions will also be the week of 3/20-3/24. The audition for this will be the same as the leadership process, but instead of the musical audition, you will have a conducting audition. For the conducting audition you may pick any piece of music that you would like to audition with, however, you will need to get my approval on the piece. I will also need a copy of the score before your audition. Your interview will take place directly after your conducting interview. Please give your teachers the teacher recommendation letter ASAP so that they may turn it into me by 3/20/2023 Week of 3/27-3/31 Danceline and Majorette auditions More info to come, but will be quite similar to the Color Guard audition format. 2023-2024 Marching band show announcement The show for next year will be....... . . . . . . . . . Announced at a time in the near(ish) future! I will announce all audition results at the same time as the show! As always, should you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to me at Kevin.dunham@cleburneschools.net
Hello all, I am very happy to announce that they did in fact reschedule MPA rather than cancel it! MPA for us is now this Friday 3/10/2023 at 11:25. This is very fortunate as it is a teacher work day and you will not have any classwork to make up! I am sorry that this takes up one of your off days, however you got an unexpected one last week and will have Monday off still, so it balances out. They moved our performance time up quite a bit so that means that the schedule has shifted, I have attached a new schedule for you to look at. Parents who plan to attend the concert, which I welcome any and all who are available, please note that they are trying to move the day along as quick as possible. This means that it is highly likely for us to perform sooner than our scheduled 11:25 I suggest being in the crowd as soon as 10:45 am as we really don't know how ahead they may get. I would hate for you to travel that far only to miss the performance. Students make sure to eat a good breakfast!! The rules and etiquette are all still the same, but I went ahead and reattached the file so that it has the new schedule, plus reinforce the rules stated. I do want to remind you that band is a performance based class and this concert is for a grade so make sure that every student is in attendance! SCHEDULE 8:00 am Load trailer/bus 8:25 am Depart RHS for Gadsden City High School 10:05 am Arrive Gadsen City High School (1917 Black Creek Pkwy, Gadsden, AL 35904) 10:55am Warm-up 11:25 am Perform 11:55 am sight reading 12:05 pm Arrive at mall (1001 Rainbow Dr, Gadsden, AL 35901) 1:35 pm Depart mall for RHS 3:05 pm Arrive at RHS and unload trailer/ clean bus 3:20 pm Dismiss
Hello everyone, I just received this email from the ABA district II president regarding MPA
"As you are all probably aware of at this point - Gadsden City Schools are virtual on Friday. Our event was cancelled as a result. Rescheduling possibilities will be discussed and offered. I will contact you as soon as I know something. I apologize. Nathan" I am so sorry for this, I will let you all know more details as soon as I know them, I truly hope that they reschedule and not just cancel. If it is not rescheduled I will look into doing a concert still and something fun for you in place of the mall trip we had planned. Please be safe tomorrow, the weather seems to be quite ugly! |
