Hope everyone had a good weekend. Lots of things happening this week for the band. Please read the information below as much of it is important.
Dance Line: Clinics begin TODAY starting at 3:00PM. All students interested must be in appropriate attire, on time and ready to go by 3:00 in the band room. These clinics will go until 5:30PM this week for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Color Guard: Color Guard clinics begin April 8th - April 12th. If you do not make Dance Line, it is encouraged you try color guard. The clinic times are 3:00 - 5:30PM.
Jazz Band: Jazz Band will have to be postponed one more week due to the activities happening this week. It will begin NEXT week starting on Tuesday and go until 4PM. At this time, jazz band should be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4PM. Please note if we do not possess the instrumentation needed for a jazz band, we will not have one! Sign up!
Spirit Night at McDonald's:
Thursday, March 21st, 2019 will be our third spirit night at McDonald's in Heflin AL. These are very successful events for us. A sign up sheet has been placed on my door and I will post that list Tuesday afternoon for parents to see when their student has signed up. Dance Line clinic participants are excused from this event, unless you are a current member. We are dividing the night into two parts: 4-6PM and 6-8PM.
The Candy Fundraiser:
Upon the consideration of ordering more boxes of candy, we've received comments that the candy is selling well for some and not so well for others. Due to the minimal order allowed, we've decided to not order more candy to avoid being stuck with an excess of boxes unsold. Please understand that we will be doing a fundraiser at the end of band camp for those who want to help their fees out. Remember, all fundraisers that help band fees are applied to the LAST payment.
Leadership/Drum Major: At the end of April, we will be conducting tryouts and interviews for these positions. Leadership positions will interview with Mr. Melton while Drum Major candidates will interview and audition with a panel. Please make sure you've read the packets given out and understand what is required of you for both the audition to be valid and the position.
Band Fees: Again, if you have or think you may have an outstanding balance for fees, please get in contact with our treasurer, Kim. Those with outstanding balances, whether they be auxiliary, drum major, band, etc. will not be able to participate in certain activities. Leadership, auxiliary, and band captain candidates will not be allowed to audition/interview if they have an outstanding balance. Band/Aux. members with unpaid fees will not be allowed to march next season and their balances will be forwarded to the school (which leads to diplomas being held when they graduate!). Please know that we are putting our foot down, not to be mean, but to ensure the band is healthy in it's finances so we can continue to have a band.
As we draw to what seems a swift descent to the end of the school year, please know that we will be sending out information about band fees being revised (payments, etc) shortly. We are EXTREMELY excited about next year and we hope that your student does not miss out on a fun season. Please reach out to fellow band parents who are not sure and let them know that we are a blast!
Sincerely,
Mr. Melton
