Good morning,
Hope everyone had a great weekend. What an awesome football game Friday night by both the band and the football team!
Game VS White Plains HS
This week we play White Plains HS in our final regularly scheduled game. Call time for all students is 5:00PM. We plan on leaving at 5:25PM. This week, we are dressing up for Halloween for the game. While not mandatory, it is encouraged. If students do not dress up, they need to wear their wind pants and their RHS band shirt (2019). Please dress accordingly this Friday... the temperature high is 56 with a low of 37, so it will be cold... so please remember those jackets and other things to keep your student warm.
Practices this Week
This week we are only having practice Thursday, October 31st until 4:30PM. We are having a costume contest that day so students please dress up! Please note that even though we are going to play-offs, practices will still take place as we have a Christmas parade on December 7th.
Cookie Dough
Please be encouraging your students to sell that cookie dough, especially if you're going to Orlando! We are wanting to really hit the ground running with it. All orders and money are due November 6th, no exceptions as we want to send it off by the 8th!
Christmas Concert and Christmas Parade
Our Christmas Parade will be on December 7th. Times are TBA. The Christmas concert is December 12th at 6PM in the RES gym. Please note all performances are test grades and are required. These dates are on the calendar.
Jazz Band
Students that have signed up for RHS Jazz Band will begin rehearsals next Monday (November 4th). The practices will be on Mondays (with the exception being the one practice on the 12th due to Veterans Day) after school until 4:30PM. Students are required to be present at all practices as this is a voluntary ensemble. Students are also held accountable for practicing their music.
All-State Prep
Students who are planning on trying out for All-State are allowed to attend after-school sessions beginning next Tuesday. These are strictly voluntary, but are recommended. Students have the opportunity to practice during these sessions and play their scales and prepared pieces for Mr. Melton, so he can give feedback. Students who do not know they bare minimum of scales required (7th-8th: 8 scales or more, 9-12th: All Scales) will not be registered for All-State. Please see the calendar for dates. ABA has not stated when registration is due, but will soon. For those who do not know what All-State is, it is where students throughout the state audition for spots in ensembles. If the student places well in the district, they will be able to attend District Honor Band in February (it is excuses from the school). If they place high enough, they will be allowed to participate in All-State in Huntsville AL in May. Its a great experience for all students.
Sincerely,
Mr. Melton
