Band camp is almost here! I hope you will read this entire post as it will answer questions you probably have and help us have a productive band camp this year.
Students:
This post is for all RHS Band students to read. Many of you are great at keeping up with dates and events. I want it to be a great year. Please make sure you are keeping up with the blog and calendars. Please do not rely solely on your parents to keep up with things. Make an effort to check the blog on Mondays if you can so you are up-to-date and well informed.
Leadership Camp
Monday, July 22nd, is leadership camp from 8am-12pm. Please note all leadership (drum major, asst. drum major, section leaders, and captains) are required to be present. Come dressed comfortable as we will be doing several things for team building as well as lining the field.
Rookie Camp
Starting on July 23rd until July 26th, from 8am-12pm, we will be having rookie camp for all first year marchers. This means if you have never marched with the RHS band, you must participate at rookie camp to march. Again, all leadership are required to be there. New auxiliary do not need to be present at rookie camp.
Auxiliary and Percussion Camp
Starting on July 23rd until July 26th, from 1-5PM, we will have camps for auxiliary and percussion. These are mandatory. Please be prepared with the materials you need for these four days. If you are a percussionist and you are at rookie camp in the mornings, you will need to either bring a lunch or have a parent bring you a lunch. I will be in the band room so you can eat in there.
Full Band Camp
On July 29th to August 2nd, from 8am to 5pm we will be having full band camp. Band camp is absolutely mandatory. Lunch will be provided every day. A menu will be posted next week for everyone to see. If you do not want the choice provided, you are more than welcome to bring your own lunch. Please remember that all payments (June & July) are due by August 2nd.
Band Camp Survival
Please read the following for band camp to be a fun and pleasant experience. I do not play with this matter, so make sure you are prepared.
What are the bare essentials I need for band camp?
Sunscreen
Water Container (NOT a disposable water bottle)
Comfortable Clothes
Hat/Baseball Cap
Sunglasses
Tennis Shoes (No flip flops, sandals allowed)
Music (If you do not have this, you can print it off or get a copy at camp)
Instrument/Equipment
Positive Attitude
Mr. Melton's two cents: If I were you, I would make sure I had all the above before the day comes. The reason behind not wanting you to have disposable water bottles is due to the fact it doesn't hold much, if any water. The summer has already gotten warm and we do not want you ill prepared. If you have the money, I would invest in a camelbak. They have these for $13-$20 at Walmart, Academy and Target and they are worn like a backpack. Water breaks? You get one whenever you want with one. Please consider one if you can.
Spirit Night @ Papa's Pizza
On July 25th, 2019, from 4-8pm we will be having spirit night at Papa's Pizza in Heflin AL. Students, please come and help out if you can. Aux/Percussion, we know you have camp. If you can come after that would be a huge help.
Sincerely,
Mr. Melton
