Heat Safety:
This has been one of, if not the absolute, hottest summers of my life! Safety is my top priority with your kids! I have been giving the students plenty of water breaks through the day. Today we practiced outside from 8:00am-12:00pm during which I gave them a five minute water break every 20 minutes and a 10 minute break every 25 minutes. During these breaks they are being HIGHLY encouraged to drink the provided water or Gatorade. They are also more than welcome to go inside during these breaks to cool off from this awful heat.
Every morning I ask my band leadership to watch their section put on sunscreen as I do not want anyone suffering from UV damage. Parents, please make sure that your child is doing this!
Breakfast is incredibly important on hot days like these. I highly suggest avoiding anything with dairy, as this can lead to an upset stomach. I also suggest eating more than a poptart. In my years of experience I've noticed that the students who get sick during band camp either ate nothing, dairy, or a poptart.
Info for Friday 7/29:
Tomorrow at 4:00pm Central the band will perform what they have learned thus far at camp. We would like to see as many families and friends that can make it!
The students also will have a water balloon fight tomorrow. If you are participating, make sure to bring balloons, a complete change of clothes, and a towel. Please make sure that no student wears any white clothing during the water balloon fight. If they wear white they will not be allowed to participate.
Practice Schedule:
We will keep the same practice schedule that you have had in the past which is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 2:45-4:30.
We will begin following this schedule starting next Thursday 8/4/2022. We will NOT practice on 8/1 and 8/2, I want to give the students time to prepare for school, and honestly they deserve a break after this long hot week!
Closing Thoughts:
Thank you so much for welcoming me to this community. I am so proud to have been chosen to lead such an amazing program full of great students in a very welcoming community. I truly look forward to a great year with you all. I truly encourage you to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you ever have!
Sincerely,
Mr. Dunham
