After a wonderful weekend at All State, Andrew Luther did a fabulous job with the red band. Students, I strongly recommend you try your best to make All State next year! It is a great experience you will not regret.
Now onto business for the week! We are in the final stretch of the semester and seniors end their time at RHS this week!
Jazz Band Practice
Our final jazz band practice for the 2019 spring semester will be tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30th. It will last until 4PM. Please advise that this is an essential rehearsal and we want everyone to be present.
Spring Concert
Our Spring concert is Thursday, May 2nd, at 6:00PM (AL Time). It will take place in the RES Gym. Please note that all students must be in their seats at 5:30PM, no excuses. This concert is a test grade for all the students, and is mandatory. Students have been told what to wear for the concert, which is semi-formal attire in spring colors. The concert will consist of all bands from 6-12th and the RHS Jazz Band. We will be naming awards for the 6th-8th graders this night.
Band Banquet
Our 2019 Band Banquet is taking place May 9th at Freedom Baptist Church at 6:00PM. It is encouraged that all students attend and dress semi-formal. Please note this banquet is for marching band members from the 2018-2019 year only. We ask, due to supply of food, that only immediate family comes to the banquet. Thank you for your understanding. At this banquet, we will be announcing the 2019-2020 Drum Major and Leadership positions as well as announcing our 2019-2020 show.
Marching Band and Auxiliary Deposits
Something we are doing new this year is asking for a small deposit to secure your spot for the 2019-2020 marching season. Auxiliary and their deposit of $50 is due tomorrow (April 30th, 2019). If you have concerns or questions, please contact me or Ms. Kimatha. Marching Band members have a $35 deposit due May 20th 2019. We are doing this to prepare ahead of time for marching drill, band camp and other important things so we are ahead of the game.
Percussion Spring Camp
May 13th-17th will be our spring percussion camp. It is required for all 2019-2020 marching percussion (pit or battery). That week, we will be placing students on specific drum parts. This is not a optional camp for percussion. The reason why we are doing this is to ensure success for the 2019-2020 season and get a jump start. These will last until 4:30PM everyday.
End of the Year
Students will need their instruments all the way up until the final week of school. Even though the concert will be over, we will be working on stand tunes and show music as much as we can to get a jump start for the fall.
At the end of the semester, once we finish playing for the end of the school year, ALL student instruments must go home with them over the summer. This includes brass, woodwinds, and percussion kits. We are planning to do inventory on all the instruments that are not owned by students so we can rent these instruments for future use. Please make sure all student instruments are home by May 17th, 2019. If they are left over the summer, we are assuming the student no longer wants it and we will count it towards the school inventory.
Lastly, all student lockers must be emptied by the May 20th 2019 of personal belongings. We will be assigning lockers next year to students and want to make sure everything is clear and ready to go.
Sincerely,
Mr. Melton
